Romance of Aida Visualized

My goal for this project was to choose which videos matched her tones and the emotions that she exudes through her voice. I made most of the clips a similar duration for formality, but some of the clips needed to be longer or shorter due to what was in it. A lot of the shots were sort of still, so it was just up to how long I thought it should be. Everything was based on the music, and I wanted everything to flow well with it. I tried to juxtapose some lighter and darker shots together, but not for every shot so it wouldn't be jarring. The video is a little calmer, with no fast movements and mostly panning around. I used a fade in transition and a fade out, and for some of the clips in between I used a luna fade.

I went off the word “Shadow” as my inspiration for this photo. My boyfriend is in the foreground in the light and a friend in the background, hiding in the shadow. She's hard to see at first as if she's stalking and meant to be hidden. I just turned the lights on and off in the dorm to get it to how I wanted it for the picture.

Reflection - were you able to achieve your goals? What is one example of the photo’s success and one challenge?

I was, one challenge was the background lighting but it actually ended u enhancing the picture and helping with framing. The success was that the girl in the background is barely noticeable.

Edited Time

I decided to draw a self portrait with charcoal! While Kat was doing her project in the kitchen, I was doing mine in the main room. We took roughly around the same time which was about an hour. The video is 21 seconds long. I’m trying to improve drawing realistic faces and expressions. I also want to work with charcoal more, so I thought this was a good idea. I set up the camera behind me sitting on a chair so I was visible and the drawing was too.

Reflection - Were you able to achieve your goals with the video? If not, what would you do differently to achieve your goals? What were the aesthetic or technical challenges that you had to overcome in order to get the desired result?

I was able to achieve my goal! I was worried that a self portrait would be too much for the project, but I didn't have a difficult time and I enjoyed using charcoal. I had trouble figuring out where to put my phone, but after I did it worked well.

Scale

For this project, I decided to pose as if a dragon was scaring me, but a friend of mine who was holding the camera was also holding the dragon. She posed it as if it was attacking me, and I moved until I was in the right place for the photo.

Reflection - did your photo fully achieve your goal? If not, what would you do differently to get the outcome you prefer?

For the most part, the photo achieved the goal. The placement is correct. However, some things were out of focus, so I think that that could be fixed by taking multiple photos and editing them together.

Inspiration Videos

I got the most inspiration from this video for my project. From the way the doll looks to the set building, I wanted mine to look similar to this. The camera shots that blurred and focused were very good too.

This one had the camera movements and pans that I really liked and ended up adding some to my animation. Mostly centered around the medicine.

I like the atmosphere and lighting in this one, and I used techniques to achieve different lighting in every scene that I did.

I liked the camera angles from above and from the side, and the effects that made this a really dramatic story.

This one used pauses and didn't have a lot of action for a good amount of the time.

Final Animation Project

I enjoyed this project way more than I thought I would. With 2D projects, it's frustrating the whole way through but rewarding at the end. The animation was rewarding throughout the whole thing, I would stop after doing a scene and watch it and see what I just did come together. With my sculpture I did this semester, I really enjoy the finished project but you probably wont get any meaning from it on its own. With my animation project, I'm more proud of my work, and there's plenty of information to interpret. I honestly enjoyed doing this more than any 2D or 3D project I've done, and I've never attempted animation before, besides when I was a kid playing with flipnote on my DS. While a 2D or 3D work can be super rewarding, seeing so many different layers to a work makes me feel more accomplished. I'm definitely going to try this again in the future.
